Wood Applied Intelligence (AI) is currently seeking an Applications Engineer who will be part of the Autonomous System team. Performing front end engineering designs / proposals for customers and business development for the business.
Whilst this role can be based anywhere in the UK, mobility and travel to customer sites and face to face meetings with colleagues will be expected as required.

The Applications Engineer will need to gain a comprehensive understanding of the customers technical and commercial requirements for an automation system and in turn generate a technical proposal to suit the customer's needs. Whilst doing this it is required to liaise with the various engineering departments within the business in order to explain the application requirements in detail, and obtain engineering support where required, whilst at the same time leading the application proposal.
The department also offers FEED and consultancy services for customers who wish to perform feasibility and optioneering studies for various types of automation requirements. These services can range from very small 4-week studies to 12-month full front engineering design studies generating design and costing proposals.
Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following tasks:

  • To understand the technical and commercial requirements of the customer
  • To be part of a multi-disciplined team to concept automated solutions in a variety of industries
  • To produce innovative concepts to suit the customer requirements
  • To utilize the company costing tool to generate detailed and traceable cost estimate information
  • To assist in the production of detailed costed and engineered proposals and quotations to an agreed plan
  • Maintain a high level of communication with customers both at management and engineering levels
  • Gain a good understanding of all the Wood business activities so as to be able to offer, and engage with a wide portfolio of expertise, and to promote complementary offerings from, within the wider Wood group

Skills / Qualifications
  • Educated to HNC / Degree in Mechanical Engineering or
  • Proven experience in a special purpose automation environment
  • Proven experience in an applications and role in an Automation System Design Company
  • Knowledge of various automated solutions across a wide range of industries
  • Solidworks 3D-Design
  • Proactive verbal and written skills
  • Knowledge of Industry Standards and CE Marking
  • Excellent knowledge of Special Purpose Machinery from basic conveying equipment and complex precision tooling and high speed automated processes
  • Knowledge of machinery used in pharmaceutical, food automotive and material handling industries
