Job type: Part-Time Location: within 10 miles of Bexley
Part-time carer wanted (non-smoker) to look after a 65-year-old man in his own home; who became paralysed from the neck down.
CV ideal. Previous experience, ideally in moving & handling, using ceiling hoists and general physio exercises. Experience with spinal patients is a bonus. If not, I will require you to learn under supervision. I require you to provide 2 recent, suitable references (the most recent one from your previous employer and another dated as recently as possible). With that, I will require a transferable, up-to-date DBS certificate that shows you are working under my employment. I cannot permit you to work without checking your DBS status. I will also ask you to provide your current, valid passport and proof you can work in this country.
I require you to work 15 hours per week to start. Shortly, I will require you to work an extra 1-2 hours for a double-up with another carer to give me a shower. In the foreseeable future, I will require someone willing to work an extra 3 hours on a Sunday. This will then bring your weekly hours nearer to 20 per week. You will also be required to cover for the other carer in the mornings when she takes annual leave, needs time off or is sick. She will cover for you when you take your annual leave.
Working hours:
- Monday 1 pm - 4 pm.
- Tuesday 1 pm - 4 pm.
- Wednesday 1 pm - 4 pm (Between 1-2 hrs extra in near future for double up).
- Thursday 1 pm - 4 pm.
- Friday 1 pm - 4 pm.
- Sunday 1 pm - 4 pm. (Potential extra 3 hours in future).
This is afternoon work; however, I require you to be reasonably flexible in doing morning work occasionally when given adequate notice.
Punctuality is essential for this job because the job requires handovers. If you drive and have your own vehicle with a valid UK driving licence, I will require you to show me your driving licence. You must be able to drive to my house on each day advertised. I have parking spaces on my drive. The job entitles you to 4 weeks paid holiday hours each year, but they must not be the same as the 2nd carer. You must give me these in advance each year.
Daily responsibilities:
- Preparing meals.
- General chores, e.g., washing up & hoovering.
- Personal care.
- Physio on the patient (we will show you this).
- Moving & handling.
- Au fait with using hoist equipment.
Starting salary is £11.50 per hour, which will be for a 3-month probationary period. If you succeed in the probationary period, your position will become permanent, and your pay will rise to £12 per hour. This will align with the other carers and what Bexley Borough has set. The job entitles you to 4 weeks of paid holiday pay once established.
I require you to be on Bexley's PAYE scheme. I cannot accept any self-employed applicants for this scheme.
