Senior Associate - Energy, Marine & Natural Resources
The Role
Department: Trading Disputes & Commercial Litigation
Location: London
Role: Senior Associate, Permanent
The Team
Acting for some of the world's largest commodity and natural resources companies, specialising in trading disputes (both litigation and arbitration) and advisory work in relation to a wide range of international trading issues including anti-bribery, corruption, anti-money laundering and compliance and sanctions. The team also leads internal corporate investigations.
They also act for and against Governments in relation to contractual issues, investment disputes and sovereign immunity.
The practice is recommended in various editions of the legal directories Legal 500 and Chambers UK for commercial litigation, international arbitration, public international law and commodities.
Notable cases, not limited to but including:

  • Acting for claimants in major commodity fraud of USD300 million, the subject of proceedings before the English court and other jurisdictions.
  • Acting for defendants in a fraud claim in USD700m before the English Commercial Court.
  • Acting and leading internal investigations for commodity companies on various aspects concerning their operations.
  • Acting in numerous LCIA and ICC arbitrations.
  • Acting and representing States
  • Essential Skills & Experience
    Senior Associate level who would be attracted by the broad nature of this practice. The successful candidate will, therefore, have a minimum of 6+years PQE in commercial litigation and will display excellent legal ability and initiative, strong technical skills as well as confidence in managing and prioritising a full and varied caseload. They will be a strong communicator with good attention to detail.
    Ideally candidates will have contractual dispute experience and would be advantageous to speak a European language.
    In addition, they will have excellent academics and a willingness to learn and develop their knowledge and travel.
