Our client is an international technical and engineering services partner involved with various nuclear & defence projects within the UK. We are now recruiting for a Criticality Safety Assessor to support their major projects.


Purpose and Scope:

As the Criticality Safety Assessor you will be part of a major programme safety case team, providing nuclear criticality modelling and safety assessment.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking criticality assessment, and associated activities, interfacing with engineering, project management, project controls and document management functions.
  • Act in any criticality or equivalent role.
  • Support the Safety Case Manager.
  • Support wider EUP safety case and engineering leads when requested.
  • Assist the Head of Profession in capability development and establishment and implementation of resource strategies, recruitment plans and competence.
  • Advise the company and Client leadership, engineering, programme and project management, and clients (intelligent Customer), on regulatory compliance, standards and guidance.
  • Interfaces as necessary with suppliers.
  • Supports the client in interactions with Regulators and safety committees.


Education & Experience:

  • Ideally a Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent education);
  • UK and International standards and practices (examples include American Nuclear Society and ONR Technical Assessment Guides)
  • Nuclear criticality safety assessment and HAZAN production;
  • Experience of relevant code (MONK, MCNP etc.) application in a wide range of operations and fault scenarios.
  • Knowledge of a range of nuclear hazard identification and analytical tools;
  • Ability to travel for several days at a time in the UK and occasional overseas travel.


Advantageous Experience (desirable not essential):

  • Knowledge of UK nuclear site licensing, safety assessment principles, regulatory guidance on safety assessment and nuclear Site Licence Conditions.
  • Experience in two or more UK Nuclear Site Licensee Organisations.
  • Knowledge of Regulatory permissioning/flexible permissioning.
  • Experience of safety case in civil reactors and defence sector.
  • Experience of international nuclear safety assessment.


Position will require ability to gain and retain Security Clearance and willingness to obtain Developed Vetting.
