Job Description

Bradfield Group

(incorporating Bradfield College and St Andrew’s Berkshire)

Director of Marketing and Communications

Bradfield Group is an innovative, pioneering leader in the world of independent education.

Based in Berkshire, within 10 minutes of Junction 12 (Theale) of the M4, the Group comprises two excellent co-educational independent schools - Bradfield College (800+ pupils aged 13-18, 85-90% of whom are boarders) and St Andrew’s Berkshire (300+ pupils aged 3-13, 15% boarders).

The Group also includes Bradfield Commercial Limited (for trading activities and incremental revenue streams over and above the provision of education) and Campus-XR (an educational software business, combining virtual reality with artificial intelligence).

it also includes the inclusive Bradfield Society which is an open network for alumni, parents, staff and local neighbours and friends of the schools.

This newly created role of Group Director of Marketing and Communications (GDMC) will report directly to Dr Chris Stevens, Headmaster of Bradfield College and will oversee and lead on both internal and external communications.

The GDMC will be an influential source of advice, guidance and best practice across the Group and the wide breadth of the Group’s activities. This challenging and fascinating role will have a broad remit to bring their expertise to a wide range of people and projects and communications.

This role will lead on designing and executing proactive communication strategies across the Group’s many activities, to a diversity of different audiences, through a selection of different channels and formats. The Group Director of Marketing and Communications will also become a first port of call for any inbound press / media inquiries and/or crisis response communications.

The role holder will have strong communications skills and proven experience of shaping marketing and communication campaigns, both proactively and reactively, and s/he will also possess finessed interpersonal skills to manage and support a wide range of different colleagues and stakeholders within the Bradfield Group.

These internal clients (and key principal stakeholders) include:

Dr Chris Stevens, Headmaster of Bradfield College

Ed Graham, Headmaster of St Andrew’s Berkshire

Owen Adams, COO of Bradfield Group

Alastair MacEwen, Director of Bradfield Society and Development

Kester Russell, Commercial Director of Bradfield Commercial Limited

The Pupil Admissions and Registrar teams at the two schools, led by Alex Acton (Bradfield College) and Jane Taylor (St Andrew’s Berkshire) respectively.

The post-holder will manage a small internal team, and external agencies as and when required, and will need to immerse themselves in the activities of the group to become and remain aware of the many different communication needs and opportunities across the group.

This is not a role for someone who enjoys predictable routine and staying in their comfort zone. It will appeal to ambitious people who relish a challenge - someone who can think and plan for the long term, yet be nimble enough to change plans and reprioritise at short notice.

We are keen to encourage candidates from diverse professional backgrounds. Whilst prior experience of a marketing and/or communications role within a school may be advantageous but not a requirement, an affinity with the aims, vision and purpose of Bradfield Group will be essential.
