Job Description:

The Finance Manager Europe will be a key member of the Finance Controllership Team and will lead the European finance function, in its day-to-day financial management and statutory reporting.


Reporting to the Group Financial Controller (US based), you will demonstrate capability in financial accounting and reporting. Your responsibilities will include overseeing end-to-end finance operations, supporting financial planning and analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, looking to make extensive improvements to procedures and controls, as well as ad-hoc projects and requests as and when they come up. You will be involved in budgeting, annual audits (local and group), and tax assessments. You will be responsible for producing both management and statutory reporting.

You will own the European working capital cycle.

The role is being recruited during an ongoing finance transformation project. As such, this presents the role owner with an exciting and unique opportunity to be involved at a critical period of change in shaping the functions future. This role works closely with partners, other functional heads, and all finance team members across the regions. We will build a team around this role as required and in line with firm growth trajectory.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Monthly & Annual closings

  • Supervise the preparation and reconciliation of the monthly management accounts (incl. Income Statement and Balance Sheet) and lead the monthly presentation to the Group Financial Controller
  • Design an intercompany reconciliation process and investigate unreconciled items with the European teams, collaborate with the US manager on the same.
  • Understand the local statutory accounting rules that could lead to a difference between management accounts and statutory accounts
  • Liaise with European auditors to complete required annual audits to ensure the external audit process is delivered timely
  • Work closely with the Group financial Controller to maintain Group accounting policies and procedures updated


Working capital/Treasury

  • Responsible for managing working capital for the European entities to maintain the financial health of the European.
  • Manage local team effort to complete 13 week cash flow forecast for weekly review with Group Controller and CFO.
  • Identity process improvement to reach the company's targets
  • Build a culture around working capital with education and business processes for local accounting teams.
  • Maintain local bank relationships and local team proper use of treasury platforms, identify areas of efficiency for bank processes and procedures, manage daily bank reconciliation process.


Tax & Regulatory requirements

  • Understand the local statutory tax & regulatory requirements, identify areas of external support as needed.
  • Work closely with local teams and tax advisors to ensure deadlines are met


FP&A – Collaborate with the FP&A team

  • Analyse costs, pricing, variable contributions, sales results, and the company’s actual performance compared to the business plans
  • Develop trends and projections and conduct evaluations for cost-reduction opportunities
  • Create financial reports and interpret financial information while recommending further courses of action
  • Support the FP&A team in the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts


System implementation & Process improvements

With our recent implementation of three new web-based systems,

1) Sage Intacct- as our global ERP

2) Scoro- as a project management system, and

3) Expensify- as an expense we would like the European Finance Manager to: to develop, reinforce, and redesign financial processes and procedures collaboratively with the US manager and Group Controller.


European finance team continued training and education of these systems with ongoing focus on our team becoming system experts, an ongoing basis propose key control and process improvements.


Management

  • Provide direction to European finance teams, set goals and objectives, and design a framework for these to be met
  • Determine local team requirements and work assignment of European team members to build a top performing European finance team.
  • Identify training needs for the local teams and work with the Group Financial Controller to get training sessions organized
  • Manage the relationship with any current and future external accountants, we currently have relationships with two day to day external accounting firms in France and Germany

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8-10 years’ post qualification experience in finance/accounting, ideally having progressed from Big 4 / Major 2nd Tier Audit into an industry role
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting and/or related discipline
  • Chartered Accountant / CIMA qualified with at least 3 years’ experience post qualification
  • Evidence of ongoing study and continuous personnel development
  • Experience working in a professional services or similar nature business
  • Experience in external audit environment and IFRS (and US GAAP) experience


The successful candidate

  • Successfully manage finance teams within internationally matrixed organisations (2 or more international entities)
  • Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint and experience in utilising budget and reporting software (e.g. Anaplan, QlikView)
  • Prior experience with an multi-national/entity ERP systems (Sage Intacct preferred)
  • A fast-paced learner who can hit the ground running, while maintaining composure and clarity of purpose
  • A track record of working under pressure to meet tight reporting deadlines and willing to roll sleeves up to get the work down while looking for improvements longer term
  • Interest in new disciplines and personal development including leadership, communication and presentation, project management and systems implementation
  • Open to travel to the European subsidiaries to support the local team in person.
