Devyce is disrupting the telecoms sector with a redesigned business phone network. As our front-end lead, your first task will be to build a softphone of a similar calibre to our iOS and Android apps, although you'll be open to dabbling elsewhere in the stack.
Skills / Experience ????????
(Almost) nothing here is a hard requirement, clearly the more the better but we certainly don't expect you to have it all:
- Roughly 5+ years programming experience / 3+ years with loads of relevant (see below) experience with modern JS or TS. We'll tailor the role and salary to meet your experience, so more experience is fine but there's unlikely to be significant management responsibilities for a while.
- UK/European timezone with fully remote experience
- Built responsive, real-time web apps from scratch that aren't just CRUD - we're making some exciting things, and they need to be slick. Give us an example if at all possible!
- React+TypeScript experience (the more the better) - we don't expect this to change, although we are open to compelling arguments as to why we should use Svelte / Blazor / Rust.
- Next.js experience - our legacy front end uses this.
- VoIP / Twilio / real time messaging experience with responsive UIs.
- Demonstrated ability to pick up new stuff quickly
- Kotlin or Swift experience to help pitch in on mobile apps, a little C# experience (or willingness to touch it in order to make small changes to the backend), or some natty UI/UX skills.
Features ????
- As our senior front-end hire, you'll be expected to be largely self-sufficient while the team is small. You'll need to take the initiative and make smaller decisions, rather than expecting work to be fed to you.
- You'll be contributing to big design choices that affect the entire front end (and further).
- In return, we'll support you in making those decisions. We're small enough to be open-minded about tech, although we have a preference for keeping our stack relatively small.
- You'll get to write a good chunk of greenfield code early on, with a choice of tech stack (depending on start date).
- We care most about UX and core product reliability, although we've not always been able to meet that goal (especially around UX), while looking to ship non-core features more quickly.
- We will be doing some genuinely fun stuff around NLP, as well as potentially around the nitty-gritty of VoIP. Yep, we're using GPT.
- Sane hours, flexible working.
Bugs ????
Perhaps these are red flags (and we'd all like to find that out sooner rather than later), but hopefully they're a list of things you're up for working on together.
- Our CI/CD process could probably be improved and more standardised
- Our timezones can make it a little painful to have live discussions, and you might not get same-day answers.
Devyce ????
Our team is currently a back-end focused CTO, a principal/founding backend developer, and a junior-mid front-end developer who has a truckload ???? of product knowledge. We have two contractors to handle the mobile apps that are at the core of our offering.
We are based in London????????♂️with a small office near Fenchurch Street/Bank. However our dev team happens to be entirely remote across Europe and Central Asia. As a result, we'd ideally be looking for someone in a similar timezone roughly between GMT and +4. If you'd prefer to be in the office we'll get you set up.
Our one hard requirement ????
Enthusiasm for our product and willingness to understand it, pitch in, suggest changes and improvements, and spot issues before they become problems.
