Job Description

You join us at an exciting time as we continue to play our part in helping Scotland's children and families recover from the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic. We are a dynamic charity focussed on leading transformational change for children so that they stay safe, happy and well in their own families and communities.

As Head of Finance, you will be the source of technical advice and guidance on all areas of finance. As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will be responsible for delivering effective strategic financial planning and supporting funding applications, along with robust financial management, budgeting, risk management, taxation, investment and procurement practices across the Charity.

You will be a qualified accountant, with PQE gained in the Charity sector in a senior finance role and have a strong understanding of Charity Accounting and Governance, and Taxation.

Very much a team player, you will need to be comfortable operating both strategically and tactically and bring a rigorous approach to your work, while building strong and effective relationships with colleagues.

This a permanent, full time role of 35 hours per week. You will be working remotely initially and once we move to blended working; we anticipate you working from our Edinburgh base around 2 days per week.

Closing date: Thursday 28 October 2021 at noon. It is anticipated that informal interviews will take place on Wednesday 10 November, followed by a panel interviews on Wednesday 17 November 2021.

The Safeguarders Panel Team at Children 1st is established as an integral feature of the Children’s Hearing landscape, contracted by the Scottish Government until at least June 2022 (potentially 2024) to manage the national Safeguarders Panel.

We are looking for a relational, child-centred, and resilient leader to join our team, ensuring that children’s rights and quality are at the heart of the Safeguarders Panel. The Safeguarders Panel Team (SPT) recruit, support, provide learning opportunities and monitor Safeguarders practice. We collaborate with partner agencies and deliver all other operational tasks associated with Safeguarder appointments.

You will develop relationships with Safeguarders individually and in groups, working as part of a team, to provide direct support in their important and challenging role. You will help them provide an excellent, accountable, trauma-sensitive and rights-based service for children and young people, and to provide evidence for their re-appointment.

Children 1st along with partners share a determination to act upon the recommendations from The Independent Care Review and deliver The Promise. We are also determined that the full incorporation of the UNCRC means that children will have their rights respected in all areas of their lives and will have a real say in the way they are supported.

Base

You can work flexibly, being based at home and have access to Children 1st offices and/or in one of the local community hubs and will travel to connect with other parts of the organisation once Scottish Guidelines permit this and it is safe for you and colleagues.

Salary, Conditions, Pension

We will offer you a competitive salary, generous annual leave entitlement (40 days inclusive of 9 public holidays), flexible working opportunities and a contributory pension scheme.

Hours

Full time hours to be worked flexibly to meet the needs of the service, some evening and weekend work on occasion.

FCSS has been created to challenge the inflexibility of current childcare provision across the country and to ensure equity of early years’ and childcare experience for all children regardless of family circumstances, location or specific needs.

To do this we have developed a range of services aimed at supporting children and families, childcare providers and childcare practitioners. These include:

  • The creation of childcare management software that allows services to:
    • Deliver a flexible model
    • Advertise their availability to parents
  • The creation of a Sessional Childcare Team

We are now seeking new Trustees to join our board including a new Treasurer.

Board Trustees are responsible for the charity's governance and strategy, and for making sure that the charity is administered effectively. They must account for its activities and outcomes.

The Treasurer will lead the Board of Trustees on matters relating to financial reporting and decision-making. The Treasurer’s primary role is to assist and advise the Board of Trustees in overseeing finances, the Treasurer will also lead the Finance Sub Committee and work with the Head of Finance to ensure the financial sustainability of the organisation.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated and experienced family therapist to lead our team at Bright-Light. The role is responsible for co-ordinating a team of experienced family therapists and counsellors to provide systemic family therapy and counselling to children and families with a wide variety of needs. Alongside providing therapy to families and supervision to clinicians the post holder will work collaboratively with colleagues to grow and develop the service in innovative ways and create sustainability.

Can you get to the heart of a story and produce compelling editorial, visual and video content which will inspire our audiences to join with us and the families we work to transform support so every child in Scotland can grow up safe and loved within their family and community.

As part of Children 1st’s team, you’ll develop and deliver integrated media and marketing plans to amplify our work and influence change. You’ll support the charity’s response to the urgent and emerging needs of children families by transforming children’s services, revolutionising systems of support and changing local and national government policy. You’ll make full use of your creative flair, talent for storytelling and powers of connection with children, families, the media, partners and supporters, so that we can reach every child and family in Scotland in need of our support.
