We are looking for the right person to take on a strategic as well as a hands-on role to shape our work winning strategy across the Property sector, taking the lead on major bids, as part of an exciting new opportunity at Waterman.

The right candidate will be an experienced Bid Writer/Manager with Construction industry knowledge, particularly in the Property sector, who is keen on a challenge and eager to be part of shaping our future.

You will start your journey as part of our Group Communications and Marketing team, working closely with MD’s, Technical Experts, Directors, and administrative colleagues from across the UK to produce work-winning content for high-end proposals with a fee value in excess of £1m. There is plenty of room for development and, if this initiative proves a success, we anticipate you forming your own team in the long term.

Drive and enthusiasm will be essential in this role to establish clear processes with quality control and to take the lead on the bid process throughout all stages. This includes compiling, writing, reviewing content and technical data from our departments as part of preparing world-class proposals. With the ability to deal with rapid changes in requirements, you will be responsible for proof-reading material, demonstrating technical and commercial writing skills, displaying creative flair in the bid production ensuring high standards of accuracy and document control whilst meeting deadlines.

You will hold bid co-ordination meetings and reviews with directors involved in preparing the RfP responses, as well as plan and coordinate material for bid presentations and client interviews.

With the help of our brand team, you will set out a professional and visually appealing style and also identify a bid software solution which provides a user-friendly template that will be made accessible to all staff across the wider company.

Together with colleagues from across our disciplines, you will also be responsible for developing and maintaining Waterman’s central bid library. You will always make sure bespoke solutions and value are offered to our clients and part of this involves continuous improvement, following up on bid success and failures, reporting on wins and losses, and discussing lessons learned and ‘plan of action’ with the COO of Property, COO of Infrastructure & Environment, and the related operational directors.

Your key attributes:

Acts as an exemplar for work winning. Balancing entrepreneurism and discipline to achieve a target beating win rate.
Experience in facilitating the creation of win strategies and positioning activities on major opportunities
Proven track record in bid management and a thorough appreciation of tender and project delivery processes in the construction industry.
Effective leader with the ability to build credibility at a senior level with both internal and external stakeholders.
Professional in appearance, attitude and approach with ability to communicate positively and effectively both to senior, junior and external stakeholders
Self-motivated with a lot of enthusiasm
Substantial experience working in a similar role, preferably in a professional services role within the Built Environment
Natural leader
Fantastic people skills to lead and develop relationships
Excellent writing and communication skills
IT – savvy, proficient in all commonly used software packages
Go the extra mile to meet deadlines
Eye for detail
Knowledge of procurement regulations
Understanding of role of Social Value and Corporate Social Responsibility
