The experience expected from applicants, as well as additional skills and qualifications needed for this job are listed below.
Head of Media
Based at East Midlands
Permanent role
About us:
East Midlands Airport (EMA), owned and operated by MAG (Manchester Airports Group) is the region’s gateway to mainland Europe, Eastern Europe and North Africa. Served by airlines Ryanair, Jet2, TUI, Easter Airways and Aurigny, the eight million people who live within an hour’s drive of the airport are well catered for in terms of leisure connectivity with a choice of more than 60 international and domestic destinations.
Handling 420,000 tonnes of cargo a year, EMA is also home to the UK’s largest dedicated air cargo operation and is the UK’s no.1 airport for express freight. As a hub for integrators such as DHL, UPS, FedEx and Royal Mail, within one stop of EMA, global trade is facilitated with more than 180 of the world’s largest cities.
Approximately 9,000 people work across the entire airport site for a wide range of employers many of which support the aviation sector.
The airport will be the ‘port’ of the East Midlands Freeport, an initiative which will help to drive investment, create thousands of jobs, boost skills, and accelerate a low carbon economy.
All MAG employees are on a journey, striving every day to help make air travel smoother, more seamless, connecting people and goods with the world. As a team, we recognise the importance of what we do, supporting one another along the way. Together, we are the Journey Makers.
The Role:
Travel is never far from the news, with huge interest from a wide range of media outlets. This can generate a large volume of reactive enquiries, while also presenting opportunities to secure significant reach for the outgoing content we produce.
You will be tasked with driving a proactive media agenda that supports East Midlands Airports (EMA) operational and commercial objectives and promotes all other activities to enhance its reputation with all relevant audiences.
Managing the EMA press office, as part of a MAG-wide communications team, you will respond to all incoming media enquiries and secure the best coverage for all media work. In addition to this, you will be required to stay abreast of media trends and adapt EMA’s media strategy accordingly, contributing to the wider objectives of both EMA and the overall Chief of Staff function.
You:
We are looking for a good storyteller, who is skilled at crafting messages that take account of all issues and perfectly capture our goals and objectives. You will have experience of either managing a press office, working at a senior level within a PR agency or within the media, as well as experience of people management.
You will be a strategic leader, with experience of working in a matrix organisation model. Understanding how to balance competing demands, dealing with crisis communications and building, managing and maintaining multiple stakeholder relations.
What can we offer in return? Great benefits as you would expect from a business the size of MAG – in the shape of a competitive salary, bonus scheme and benefits package including 11% company contribution pension, 25 days holidays plus bank holidays, free parking, subsidised public transport, and a huge range of company discounts.
