Job Description

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and forward-thinking leader of our Prep School PE and Games programme to join our well-resourced department. The successful candidate will be inspirational in their subject, innovative and show a real desire to motivate pupils of all abilities to realise their full potential. PE is taught from Reception in our Pre-Prep to Year 8, with Games being an integral part of our offering from Year 3 to Year 8. You will have the skills and abilities to engage and enthuse different types of learners and to work productively as part of a whole school team.

At Langley, we see it as our mission to foster a genuine and lasting love of the subject through exciting, well-planned and engaging lessons in which pupils are challenged and encouraged to learn from their mistakes. Langley is very fortunate to have extensive grounds, floodlit Astro pitches nearby, Sports Hall and hard courts. Matches and fixtures, locally regionally and nationally are a very important part of the Games Department's offer; we participate at a local, regional and national level in a variety of sports. Teams from all year groups, in all our core sports (Rugby, Netball, Hockey, Football, Cricket) compete on a regular basis. The PE teaching team works very closely with our highly experienced Sports Coaches and the Langley Football Academy.

All teachers at the school are form tutors and play an important role in the pastoral life of a thriving independent school.

Skills and Experience

  • Hold a minimum qualification of honours degree, preferably with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Have a record of outstanding classroom practice, with the ability to communicate in an imaginative and enthusiastic way.
  • Able to embrace new technologies and integrate ICT into teaching.
  • To continue to develop and innovate a progressive curriculum in PE lessons which coexists with the Games programme of extracurricular and enrichment activities, with a clear vision for the future direction of the PE department.
  • Working in conjunction with the Head of Langley Sport, to provide strong leadership and lead the department's strategic planning and self-evaluation processes.
  • Monitor standards of coaching/teaching to ensure teaching is good or better, and quality assure standards within the department; then implement strategies for sustained improvement.
  • Work with the Head of Langley Sport to support the professional development of all staff within the department through training and sharing of good practice.
  • A willingness to contribute to the extensive extra-curricular program of the department, including fixtures, events and trips.
  • Manage and plan a departmental budget and to coordinate the resources of the department, giving support and guidance to relevant staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, pupils and parents.
  • Act as a role model to others, demonstrating high standards of professionalism in all aspects of leadership to inspire and enthuse members of the team.
  • Build on the school's extensive fixture programme, including sports tours, coordinating catering, transport, facilities and parental communications.
  • To celebrate pupils' work through displays throughout the department, around the school and in assemblies.
  • To coordinate the feedback of pupil performance to parents through things such as reports and parents' evenings.
  • Work with the wider staff body on outreach programmes developing strong links with local clubs, schools and organisations.
