Brief Description
As a Health and Safety Manager, you’ll provide professional health and safety advice and support to project teams, co-ordinate the relevant business activities and to facilitate compliance with our Health and Safety Management System and all relevant legal, industry and company standards. Day to day you’ll support teams in the delivery of CDM Documentation, investigation of accident and incidents and the implementation of resulting recommendations, along with undertaking site visits and supporting regional and organisational assurance activities. You’ll be a conduit for safety between the project teams and the safety function, to deliver and embed learning through team briefings as well as our campaigns and updates. As a team player with a collaborative approach, you will work closely with the Principal Contractors delivering the Enhancement Portfolio. The role sits within the Southern Safety and Sustainability Team based at Puddle Dock (London Blackfriars), reporting into the Principal Health and Safety Manager. The role will be focused on supporting Southern Regions substantial enhancements portfolio, as well as providing support to our Civils Engineering Framework team. You will hold a NEBOSH Construction Certificate and desirably be a certified member of IOSH working towards Chartered status with significant experience in construction and/or railway capital expenditure works.

Key Accountabilities
- Provide functional support, guidance and professional expertise to the teams on all health and safety matters so as to deliver successful execution of the programme or works.
- Work directly with the teams providing health and safety direction by leading the HSEA specialist aligned to the team. (Where applicable)
- Lead/Direct periodic meetings with the contracting organisations to share and promulgate best practice and lessons learnt.
- Provide support to the teams on inspection and monitoring of the safety and environmental performance of projects and monitor so that a consistent approach is taken to contractor occupational and construction safety across all work.
- Work with teams to determine practical and deliverable measures to improve health & safety performance.
- Support teams in the investigation of accidents and incidents and in the implementation of resulting recommendations.
- Provide the single point of contact with HMRI and other health and safety organizations for day-to-day site health and safety.
- Co-ordinate the health & safety activities of the programme and maintain effective liaison with other Regions, Programs and Major Projects and aligned routes.
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- NEBOSH Construction certificate
- NEBOSH General Certificate
- Significant experience in the successful management of HSEA issues on major programs of work in the construction and/or rail industries
- Project Safety Management course
Desirable
- Membership of a relevant professional body with chartered status
- NEBOSH diploma, IEMA certificate, An experienced Health and Safety or Environment practitioner
- Knowledge of Behavioral Change techniques
- Knowledge of our systems and processes
- Working knowledge of rules, Regulations and standards applicable to contractor safety
