12 month FTC with possible extension and eventual FTE

Hybrid working - 2 days per week minimum onsite in Central London

The Opportunity

This opportunity is working for an iconic government organisation. Supporting the Head of Business Partnering and Advisory Service, the HR Business Partner will play a central role ensuring core HR tasks are carried out and to empower mangers to lead on people matters with support and guidance where required.

Working across the Administration, this role will deliver an effective strategic HR Business Partner approach and proactively support line managers at all levels in the effective management of their staff. The post holder will also be providing excellent HR services to the staff of the Administration, including casework management, workforce planning and resourcing strategies.

Reporting to the Head of Business Partnering and Advisory, you will work closely with the Director and Deputy Director of Human Resources as well as maintain key relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholder, including members of the public and other government departments.

Key responsibilities

The main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Embed a pro-active business partnering approach, building excellent working relationships with the key stakeholders across the head of office and wider business groups
  • Provide a consistent corporate approach to employee relations and complex casework supporting on areas such as people management, coaching senior managers, sickness/absence management, grievances, disciplinaries, learning and development, performance management/improvement and practical applications of policies etc
  • Brokerage service for business areas by supporting the delivery of departmental business priorities and strategic plans whilst promoting the use of HR tools, policies and approaches across the organisation to support these outcomes
  • Supporting all Heads of Office in building and delivering their action plans from the biennial all staff survey
  • Coordination with the Learning and Organisation Development Team and assist business groups (offices) in attracting, managing and developing talent to support current and future organisational needs, both for interim and long-term solutions including management of the business case process for designing and creating new posts and managing job evaluation process.

The successful candidate

Essential:

  • Chartered Membership of the CIPD or equivalent experience (and willingness to work towards MCIPD status within a reasonable timeframe)
  • Strong HR Knowledge - Extensive generalist HR experience including experience of advising successfully on complex case management issues and employee relations issues
  • Influencing and Negotiation - Strong challenging and influencing skills including negotiation skills with the ability to effectively challenge senior staff and build relationships both within and outside of the organisation at all levels
  • Delivering Customer Service - Proactive, customer and business focused skills including the ability to advise on the HR content of a business case and job evaluations and the ability to work effectively to meet deadlines, and reliably under pressure remaining calm and focused
  • Communication Skills - Clear and accurate oral, written, and online communications skills, including consistent record keeping and reporting * Collaboration and Teamwork - Experience of working effectively with others, guiding and advocating as required, adapting effectively to a range of situations, individuals or groups
  • Problem Solving - A high level of initiative and adaptability including the ability to offer HR related solutions
  • Public Sector experience is desirable but not essential.
