Job Description

IP Litigation Associate
London
Legal 500
3 - 5 pqe associate

My Client, a hugely successful Legal 500 practice, is looking to recruit for an IP litigator to join the firm's well-established Litigation Group. The Group's work encompasses a broad range of litigation for clients from many industries and across many sectors. Clients come to this firm for essential intellectual property advice because they are known specialists who understand their industries and advise on a full range of IP issues dispute resolution and strategy. These IP litigators work on high-value disputes, as well as resolving smaller issues and counterfeiting problems cost-effectively.
They are experienced in a wide range of industries, including in particular: fast-moving consumer goods, telecoms, entertainment (including film, theatre and creative arts), publishing, digital services, engineering, electronics and fashion (including streaming platforms).

The successful candidate is likely to have 3 -5 years PQE. They will have strong academics, having received high quality training and experience to date. Candidates will already be working with a highly reputed IP practice. They should have a broad background in all kinds of IP disputes and litigation, which should include trade marks, designs and copyright but preferably also patents (although a science background is not necessary). We are not looking for a predominantly life sciences specialist or pure patents specialist. The successful candidate will have experience in a wide range of IP litigation tasks at various stages of cases, preferably including interim injunction, mediation, CMC, costs budgeting, disclosure, evidence and trial. The successful candidate will have the desire and ability to be pro-active and flexible and adapt their skills to work on a very broad range of contentious matters. Strong drafting skills and negotiating experience are essential. Court experience is essential and trial experience is highly desirable. Some experience in complementary non-contentious IP work, ie drafting IP agreements (licences, settlement agreements, etc) and an ability to deal with wider contract/tort issues is beneficial as is experience handling trade mark oppositions and domain name disputes. The group also handles ASA and other advertising clearance and disputes, and occasionally consumer protection issues, and experience in these, or interest in acquiring such experience, would also be of interest.
