Dover
Full Time / Permanent
Our client one of Europe's busiest ferry port, handling 33% of UK-EU trade, worth £144bn per annum. Each year more than 2 million freight vehicles, 2 million tourist vehicles and 10 million passengers pass through the Port.
Working within the IT department the purpose of this role is to assist the Head of IT in managing the team to deliver the departments objectives and lead on technology innovation. The role will focus on the following key areas:
Managing the continuous life cycle and cyber security of the Ports in-house developments and key applications e.g. SharePoint and the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
Work with the IT team and IT leadership to develop and maintain IT strategy aligned with business objectives.
Engage the business on its use of technology to: o Identify and leveraging the benefits of deployed technology. o Identify new technology with a tangible benefit to the business and where approval is given progress feasibility. o Input to IT strategy and programme
Day to day management of the Departments IT Development team.
The IT Development Manager will carry out their line management responsibilities by, among other actions:
Setting measurable objectives for their team members on an annual basis.
Managing the team resources effectively, assessing team and individual performance and addressing capability and underperformance issues.
Auditing functions under their responsibility to ensure agreed service standards and performance levels are achieved and maintained.
Ensuring team and individual compliance with corporate processes and procedures, including administration, safety and security.
Management of risk and acting as risk leader for the team. Duties of the Post Holder To execute effectively the line management responsibility for the IT Development team and to be accountable for the delivery of that teams objectives.
Work closely with the Business Change team in providing technical input to the continued evolution of the Ports ERP system.
To monitor the performance of the IT Development team in delivering fault troubleshooting and resolution of assigned incidents within a timely manner, ensuring that incidents are correctly updated in the current IT service management tool. This includes participating in fault troubleshooting and resolution as necessary.
To attend industry events as required to gain technical insight in to new and emerging technology. To author technical proposals/business cases for new and emerging technology.
To lead on technology innovation and act as advocate for its use within IT and the wider business. To effectively project manage all aspects of assigned technology projects, providing design authority expertise to ensure that solutions are fit for purpose and delivered to an agreed standard. To attend the change advisory board and other IT management forums.
To investigate and recommend changes to the Port of Dovers IT policies and processes in order to maximise their effectiveness.
To create and maintain IT system and policy documentation.
To create competency frameworks and training programmes for the team.
To use your technical experience and knowledge to make suggestions for any projects that would enhance or ensure the continued delivery of the companies IT services and to submit the appropriate project proposals
To take responsibility for self-development, identify opportunities for training to keep technical skill set current and to advance knowledge in other areas of technology.
Qualifications
Further education qualification e.g. Diploma, HNC or Degree. Management Qualification e.g. CMS/DMS Vendor certifications e.g. Microsoft Project Management Qualification Experience
Experience in a people management role. Hands on technical experience of IT development or support.
Experience with supporting/developing an ERP system.
Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of:
Application Support Business Intelligence (BI) and Reporting
Agile Development Methodology
Cyber Security Experience of IT change management.
Experience of Microsoft SharePoint Experience of Office365 IT Legislation and Regulation e.g. GDPR Specialist Skills and Knowledge
Good user skills in the Microsoft Office suite of products Experience of one or more project methodologies
Experience in at least one of the following technical areas:
Database Administration (DBA)
Developing, administering and maintaining an ERP system.
Software development, including ASP.NET, Web Services, JavaScript, JSON, HTML5 and CSS
Microsoft SharePoint support and development IFS Applications 8.0 Experience of Business Intelligence (BI) and reporting with Qlikview.
Experience of Oracle and/or SQL database technologies Knowledge of Agile development methodology
Experience of Microsoft Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server
