The Group Operations & Commercial Legal team sits within Group Legal. We deliver strategic legal advice which is central to the operations of the Group. We are a collaborative, supportive and development-focused team.

Please note this is a 9 month fixed term contract.

Could you help us make this possible?

You will join the team as a lawyer supporting a wide range of partners across the business to implement some of the Group's most strategic and exciting projects. These will include transactions with FinTechs to increase the digital capability of the Group, cyber security projects, critical outsourcing arrangements and major regulatory and change programmes.

This role will involve working closely with functions including Group Sourcing, the Chief Information Office, Group Services and Security, the Chief Operating Office and Risk teams to ensure we achieve robust terms with third party suppliers.

Responsibilities:

You will negotiate, draft and advise on a variety of key Group-wide supplier contracts for IT (including SaaS and Cloud arrangements) and other services such as licensing agreements and professional services. You will work closely with our business teams to identify key legal risks, help resolve performance or other contractual issues arising from ongoing supplier arrangements.

Our lawyers also support the team to provide training to the Group Sourcing team and group wide partners on relevant legal topics and play a part in the wider legal community initiatives including a variety of social and environmental concerns to help deliver against the Group's purpose.

What we'll need from you:

Essential:

  • Applicants must be a fully qualified lawyer with a current practising certificate for a UK jurisdiction or equivalent legal qualification.
  • Experience negotiating commercial contracts, outsourcing arrangements and technology agreements gained either in an established in-house legal team or a leading private practice firm.
  • Strong commercial awareness together with a customer-focussed approach.
  • Excellent influencing and communication skills together with a pro-active approach as we regularly interact with executives and seek to build r internal networks with our business teams.

Desirable:

  • Experience advising clients from the financial services sector and an awareness of the regulatory requirements for outsourcing in this sector.

The work is varied, fast-paced and will provide great insight into the operations, technology, and security strategy of the Group. The role provides an opportunity to develop a number of transferable skills - including a strong business understanding and negotiation skills.

The benefits package includes:

  • A discretionary performance related bonus
  • Generous pension contribution
  • 30 days leave per year plus bank holidays
  • Private health cover

We are dedicated to giving you opportunities and support to develop you to optimise your potential. With us you'll have a key role to play in shaping the financial services of the future, whilst the scale and reach of our Group means you'll have many opportunities to learn, grow and develop.

We are committed to building a workforce which reflects the diversity of the customers and communities we serve, and to building an inclusive environment where all our colleagues can be themselves and succeed on merit. We support the principles of agile working and are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We are an equal opportunity employer and deeply value diversity within our organisation. We will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment. Please contact us to request accommodation.

Together we make it possible.

As part of the Group's commitments as a result of ring-fencing legislation, colleagues based in the Islands are required to be exclusively dedicated to the non-ring-fenced bank and its subsidiaries. This means that colleagues who are based in the Islands would not be able to undertake roles for the Ring-Fenced Bank from their existing location and would need to consider relocation when applying for roles.
