UK Sport is the lead government agency for major sporting events at the UK level. We work closely with our sporting and regional partners to ensure that the UK successfully bids for and stages a range of the world’s biggest international sporting events.

The Major Events team at UK Sport manages Exchequer and National Lottery funding into major sporting events that take place right across the UK in Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth and other sports. Currently UK Sport has committed to investing almost £30m of Lottery funding from 2017 and we have already secured a series of international sports events including; Rugby League World Cup 2021 (now being staged in 2022), World Championships in Trampolining, Costal Rowing, Artistic Gymnastics , Canoe Slalom and the inaugural UCI Cycling World Championships 2023.

As part of our new strategy, a key focus for the Major Events team is not just the securing of international sports events, but how we can support events and the wider sector to look at how to deliver ethical and environmentally sustainable events alongside positive social impact within the communities in which they are staged.

You will work closely with our Major Events Consultants, National Governing Bodies and event hosting partners to understand the best practice currently available and offer practical advice on how this can be embedded in the delivery of major sporting events.

We are a fast paced team of individuals who care passionately about ensuring that the UK continues to deliver purposeful, world class and innovative events.

As a Major Event Development Manager, you will be responsible for leading, planning and delivering support to UK Sport funded major events to ensure that they create and embed environmental sustainability and equality, diversity and inclusion into event delivery.

In partnerships with the newly created UK Sport Social Impacts team you will work with event hosting partners and organising committees to ensure all UK Sport funded events have clear strategic objectives to deliver social impacts and sporting legacy.

The successful candidate will have experience of at least one of these areas, an ability to translate current theory into practical best practice advice and lead partnership discussions and workshops to provide technical advice on how this theory can be applied to different events.

Strong project management, an ability to work independently but collaboratively is critical to the role.

Additionally, the current role has elements of communications, copywriting and marketing. Experience in these areas would be welcomed.

We are keen to hear from those who would like to undertake the role either part or full time (3-5 days) and portfolios would be adjusted accordingly with respect to hours. Please specify your days / hours preference in your covering letter.
