Wood Applied Intelligence (AI) is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Designer to support our UK projects. This position can be either contract or staff.
This role can be based anywhere in the UK, mobility and travel to customer sites and face to face meetings with colleagues will be expected.
Must be able to pass HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.

This opportunity will involve interfaces with other Discipline, Client, Contractor and Supplier Engineers, working in compliance with the Client's Project Specifications and provide technical support based on proven experience and guidance by others. The appointed engineer shall integrate within the project team, reporting directly to the Project Engineer Manager working under the guidance of Senior Mechanical Engineers.
In this role you will be responsible for the execution of project work, in accordance with the Discipline Design Instructions, including Wood and / or Project Procedures on Safety and Quality Control, within the man-hour, cost budgets and the project schedule targets
Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Deliver the mechanical design project scope of work to the Client
  • Prepare material requisitions for a range of Static, Rotating and Package equipment
  • Take part in resolving technical issues across multiple disciplines, driving the technical solutions to completion
  • Assist in the preparation of RFQ packages for the Mechanical packages to the required Client, Wood and Project procedures and standards
  • Understand and comment on process design data to ensure appropriate equipment specification and selection
  • Review of vendor documentation requirements for use and integration within project
  • Produce project documentation effectively, ensuring all disciplines receive the quality information at the right time
  • To provide relevant knowledgeable practical skills in the response and actions for:-
    • Site visits and site surveys
    • Site queries, discussions and optioneering
    • Supplier, vendor, contractor, client, and site related discussions
    • Site based activities

Skills / Qualifications
  • Degree qualified or equivalent experience in a Mechanical Engineering discipline
  • Experience of working with clients and vendors
  • Industry experience within refinery, petrochemical and / or oil & gas
  • Experience of Vendor co-ordination meetings and supporting engineering design reviews
  • Flexible attitude with proven experience of effective working in a project team environment
  • Computer literate with common software packages such as Microsoft Office
