Overview of role

Zodiac Maritime are seeking to appoint an experienced Operations Manager with a strong Gas background to join their team, headquartered in London.


The successful candidate will co-ordinate the day-to-day operational activities of a fleet of Gas Tankers in an efficient, timely and cost-effective manner, to ensure the Owners and Charterers expectations are met. Whilst actively promoting the company’s safety culture and standards aboard the vessels.


Key responsibilities and primary deliverables

  • Ensure that all voyages are conducted with primary regard to the safety of crew, vessel and protection of the environment.
  • Minimise the operational costs and controlling vessels’ performance to ensure overall performance of the voyages are in line with Owners and Charterers expectations.
  • Within the required timescales, provide the Master with all required information, including but not limited to, CP terms, sailing instructions and expert guidance.
  • Ensure Charterers adequately plan bunker supplies in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Checking freight/hire invoices on a regular basis and upon delivery/redelivery to Charterers.
  • Negotiating Agency fees and appointing agents as necessary.
  • Ensure all parties are continually updated on voyage orders and vessel itineraries.
  • Co-ordinate all the other departments in the organisation to ensure the vessels are run as efficiently as possible.
  • Checking and approving cargo documentation if required.
  • Assist as part of the emergency / crisis management team and make appropriate requirements.

Relevant experience & education

  • Ex sea-going officer (Chief Officer or Captain) on Gas Tankers.
  • You hold a Chief Officer or Masters Certificate or equivalent.
  • Previous experience of carrying out the shore-based day to day operations of a fleet of Gas Tankers.
  • Demonstrated understanding and awareness of vessel design, cargo types, voyage instructions, stowage plans, vessel KPI’s, key ports and voyage routes.
  • Clear, precise and confident in verbal and written communication to support credibility and position of expertise.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise work streams under pressure & problem solve where required.
  • High level of analytical skills and strategic thinking ability to support decisions with sound reasoning and judgement.
  • Highly effective at building and sustaining relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, even in challenging situations.
  • Proven record of commercial awareness and ability to apply sound commercial judgement.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, collaborative in style and excellent communication skills.
  • You have strong focus on delivering quality and meeting deadlines. A successful track record in dealing with a broad set of activities within a fast-paced environments, whilst managing ambiguity and pressure well is a requirement for this role.
  • Team player: to contribute to the success of the team by sharing knowledge and experience freely within the team. To assist other members of the team as required during busy periods or absences.
  • The ability to take ownership and holds oneself accountable.
