We are looking for an experienced solicitor to join the Legal and Democratic Team based primarily at home with attendance at Civic Centre, Motherwell as required.

Working with the Corporate Data Protection Officer and Legal Manager, you will manage the provision of specialist legal advice in all areas of information governance law, particularly data protection and freedom of information. You will take a lead role in information governance compliance within the Council, and develop, review and implement policies, procedures, guidance and training.

You will hold a current unrestricted Practising Certificate from the Law Society of Scotland and have comprehensive knowledge and substantial experience of data protection and freedom of information law. Applicants must have excellent communication skills and the ability to engage in discussions to promote data protection within the Council.

Experience of drafting data processing/sharing agreements, privacy notices, impact assessments and of drafting and implementing policies and procedures is essential.

Experience of supervising a team is desirable.

You will be able to carry out a range of tasks within a broad remit and manage a demanding workload with minimum supervision. It is also essential that you have excellent interpersonal, communication and report writing skills, together with the ability to develop and support colleagues in delivering the information governance function within Legal and Democratic.
