Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Risk & Compliance, the Risk and Compliance Lawyer will manage the firm's corporate governance matters, advise and assist on partnership matters, on a wide range of regulatory matters, data protection, and on contract law issues, and will take the lead in maintaining a robust risk management and audit framework for the firm.

You will be a key member of the Risk & Compliance team, which provides advice to everyone in the firm on professional standards, regulatory compliance, continuous improvement, corporate governance, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all matters of corporate governance including the affairs of the LLP, advising on partnership law, reviewing, and advising the firm regarding supplier contractual arrangements, contract law and other key contractual relationships between the firm and third parties
  • Work with the Risk & Compliance manager to maintain the corporate risk register and raise any general risk issues emanating from the Risk & Compliance reporting framework.
  • Assist the Director of Risk & Compliance in aspects of reputational risk management
  • Work with the Director of Risk & Compliance in the management of the firm's client engagement and terms of business documentation.
  • Advise and assist on data protection issues, breaches, and their handling, DPIAs, DSARs, and review arrangements and systems for their compliance with data protection legislation.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the firm's internal audit programme, file quality audits and scope audits, ensuring that the programme remains proportionate and fit for purpose.
  • Line-manage an auditor and oversee the preparation and delivery of internal audit reports.
  • Work with the Director of Risk & Compliance and other members of the team in advising on complex regulatory matters and in the management, investigation and formal response to potential regulatory breaches, expressions of dissatisfaction and formal client complaints, maintaining the firm's registers, reporting emerging trends and proposing remedial action.
  • Work with, support and help develop other members of the R&C team.
  • Develop and deliver relevant training across core areas of responsibility.

Key Skills

  • An England and Wales qualified solicitor with a minimum of eight years post qualification experience.
  • Strong experience in a regulated environment or as a senior in-house counsel who is adept at advising on contract law and compliance issues, ideally with experience of advising on matters relating to corporate governance, risk management and data protection.
  • Partnership experience is essential, as is the ability to build, maintain and nurture excellent relationships across the firm and with external stakeholders.

The firm's hybrid working model is 2 days in the office, 3 from home.

Salary - £90,000 - £95,000.
