Want to be part of something transformational?

At Birmingham City University (BCU), we’re enabling students to achieve their potential so they can go out and transform the world. Our people are the key, delivering a great experience for every learner, every day. As a Senior HR Business partner, you’ll support this outstanding inclusive staff community by making the University a great place to work. It’s a chance to empower our team – and help game-changing graduates thrive.

Why Birmingham City University?

At Birmingham City University we aim to be the University for Birmingham. We have recently invested £340m in our central Birmingham campuses, building on our civic heritage. Through our education and research, and the roles our graduates go on to play in the world, we help individuals to transform their lives, and society, too. We are determined to empower the next generation with the skills they need to flourish in a digital and ever-changing global environment.

HR at Birmingham City University

In Human Resources, people are our focus. We’re looking for skilled professionals who will share our values and strive to make the University a great place to work:

  • We will attract and retain the best people and develop and support them to fulfil their potential, meet their career aspirations and deliver the University’s strategy.

  • We will engage with, recognise and reward our people by valuing their creativity and performance in the delivery of the University's priorities.

  • We will promote and develop excellent and inclusive leadership and build partnerships centred on our values in a safe, healthy and collaborative working environment.

Your role as Senior HR Business Partner

HR plays a hugely important part in helping us achieve our strategic aims. Your task, in this key role, is to partner your assigned Faculty or Department, helping them to develop and deliver their People Strategies. Working as an integrated member of the senior management team, you’ll tackle staffing, talent, engagement and employee relations plans. You’ll also oversee recruitment and workforce planning, manage HR projects; and crucially, build our leaders’ ability to manage their people issues.

At this level, you’ll be an internal HR specialist, providing a high-quality service and expert advice. You must therefore be CIPD-qualified, with significant experience in a Business Partner role, including employee relations casework. Degree-educated (or equivalent), you’ll have the confidence to collaborate, influencing others, communicating clearly, and giving professional guidance. Good organisation will be essential, along with attention to detail, strong knowledge of EDI issues and enthusiasm.

Rewards and benefits

Join us, and you’ll be eligible for a generous pension and annual leave. We also have great facilities on campus, family-friendly policies and a hybrid working model that combines on-site and remote working (where possible).
