The Opportunity

We're on the search for a highly experienced internal communications professional to act as deputy to the Group Internal Communications Lead and provide support as needed on change projects and Insider List activity when additional resource is needed. This person will handle flexible design and delivery of effective and creative communications activities across the Group, with specific focus on supporting the CPO, COO and CFO functions. Building senior level relationships is key to this role and the post holder will have strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence to work effectively with a range of stakeholders to deliver impactful communications within their divisions and across the Group. Ultimately, the outcome will be a consistent, regular communication flow across the Group that aligns colleagues with the Group strategy, creates trust, and encourages openness and transparency.

Key Accountabilities

  • Act as deputy to Group Internal Communications Lead and take the lead or support as needed on confidential change projects and insider list activity.
  • Provide flexible team support to the Group Internal Communications Manager to ensure service continuity during periods of peak demand or absence.
  • Design effective internal communications and engagement activity in support of the Group strategy, organizational design and business needs – working hand in hand with senior functional leads and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Working closely with divisional Senior Leadership Teams, establish and build relationships with key stakeholders at all levels – including ExCom, ELT, people managers and colleagues.
  • Focus on briefing and equipping each department’s leaders with the advice, knowledge and correct information to support them in raising the profile of their teams across the Group and the delivery of cascaded Group messaging within their teams.
  • Identify awareness gaps within the divisions you’re responsible for and resolve through effectively planned and delivered internal communications activity (inform, instruct, persuade and engage) linked to the Group calendar, business area priorities and People Team engagement focused activity.
  • Identify awareness gaps of the divisions within the wider business and resolve at a Group or Cyber level with appropriate and effective internal communications activity (inform, instruct, persuade, engage).
  • Use audience insights and an evidence-based approach to ensure all communications activity (across any channel) is always aligned to the strategy, relevant to the target audience, in line with brand tone of voice/employer brand and clear.

Skills

  • An ability to operate at an operational management level with flexibility to adapt between strategic and hands-on approaches as needed.
  • Willing to be hands-on in developing and delivering effective communication plans and approaches, analysing stakeholder groups, creating content, measuring impact.
  • Highly effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Handles or escalates challenges appropriately and influences a variety of stakeholders effectively
  • Exceptional copywriting skills coupled (with a general understanding of behavioural and organisational psychology beneficial) to create strong and professional communications to targeted groups of internal audiences at all levels.
  • Strong hands-on technical capability to deliver effective communications activity using appropriate tools across multiple channels – email platforms, creative skills using graphics, video and photography, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Town Halls etc.
