BNP Paribas Corporate and Institutional Banking is a globally recognised leader offering capital markets, securities services, financing, treasury and advisory solutions.

UK Brand & Communications is responsible for ensuring that the BNP Paribas brand is protected and promoted in the UK. The department manages all media relationships for the bank in the UK as well as all internal communications for UK Territory Management, Global Banking and UK Functions.

Its core functions are media relations, internal communications, sponsorship and partnership management, events, content creation for Group and CIB outlets across EMEA and communications coordination.

The department also provides a broad range of communications support to the Global Markets and liaises with Group Communications and CIB Company Engagement to ensure that all messaging is supportive of Group aims.

The Sustainable Finance Senior Communications Manager is primarily responsible for ensuring that media, staff, and other external stakeholders receive compelling, influential messages that embed support BNP Paribas objective to be a leader in sustainable finance.

They will execute on communications as well as advising clients (including company Relationship Managers and senior management) on strategy related to sustainable finance engagement. Includes cross platform communication across web, social, media, and internal owned channels.

They are also responsible for liaising with CIB Company Engagement and Group Communications and assisting in the arrangement of cross-territory sustainable finance communications.

They have responsibility for ensuring that company messaging systems are utilised and managed effectively, with attention paid to access control, appropriate approval hierarchies for all communications and record storage.

As with all Senior Communications Managers within the department, this role is required to assist more senior members of the team (providing that that does not conflict with core responsibilities). This may include supporting on discrete projects and taking on responsibility for some regular tasks. They will also take a leadership role within the department, guiding junior members.

The Responsibilities

Business Planning, Management & Strategy:

  • Support CIB Company Engagement, UK B&C, and banking teams through leading on communication campaigns about sustainable finance initiatives, client deals, awards, related events, and engagement projects together with relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Take responsibility for contributing to defining and developing the UKB&C strategy related to sustainable finance, look to continually strengthen our offering, increasing our client impact and enhancing our reputation. Clear identification of key objectives, strategy, tactics, potential risks, industry opportunities, gap analysis and measurable KPIs.
  • Align communications strategy to sustainable finance business priorities whilst taking into consideration at all times the Bank’s 4 key pillars and mutualise where possible, aligning with a “One Bank” approach.
  • Strategically monitor key sustainability trends in media relations to stay at the highest quality levels in terms of ideas and delivery
  • Develop, maintain, upgrade and ensure use by the team of critical communications tools
  • Regularly share tools and ideas with other CIB and UK teams and regions to ensure continuity and consistency when possible

Supervision and control of sustainable finance media relations:

  • Management and leadership of UK Media Relations for UK CIB focusing on SF.
  • Creation and constant maintenance of media relations about sustainable finance and net zero transition within the most influential UK outlets
  • Maintenance of strongly positive, cooperative, relationships with Group and other Territory medias relations functions
  • Ensure optimisation of resources through :
  • Proper allocation of resources to business priorities
  • Industrialisation of processes
  • Costs reductions when possible
  • Ensure high business & ethical standards in implementation of sustainable finance media campaigns
  • Enhance competitive intelligence & monitoring on strategic sustainability topics
  • Share strategic initiatives with peers from the platforms and capitalise on best practises
  • Follow BNP Paribas policies & procedures

Communications Management:

  • Develop media relations strategy for SF and supervise media relations and wider communications execution on related topics.
  • Lead on strategy, planning and execution for sustainable finance communication campaigns within the UK and in collaboration with CIB and Group communication teams.
  • Lead on briefing internal stakeholders about sustainable finance trends, commitments and sector updates related to client deals.

Coordination with other teams / business areas

  • Ensure strong relationship management with media and wider communications functions across the Group.
  • Ensure a strongly positive network of relationships with key stakeholders internally, including UK territory Management and UK management teams in Global Markets and Global Banking.
  • Closely collaborate with other communications professionals, CIB Communication and Engagement teams, and local Corporate Communications teams: relaying strategy and planning, exchanging best practices and ideas, etc.
  • Maintain connections with other media relations heads across the financial services industry.
  • Look to systematically gain market intelligence on sustainability and sustainable finance from outside BNP Paribas.

Other Contributions:

  • People care: team development, training, motivation and interaction with other teams
  • Closely collaborate with other UK, European teams or across the regions
  • Very systematic in gaining market intelligence from beyond the BNPP walls
  • Challenging to business to focus on value added content, while considering significant cost restraints
  • Openly share tools and procedures with other BNP Paribas professionals
  • Negotiate and report on all costings related to sustainable finance media relations/communications
  • Close collaboration with Strategic Marketing team members for the organisation and definition of content related to sustainable finance
  • Contribution to internal communication, sponsorship and branding initiatives
  • Build strong working relationships with internal clients and key supplier contacts and other members of the communications teams both within Global Markets, Global Banking and FIC and also in Coverage, CIB and other metiers.
  • Raise the profile of the team within the business line and across BNP Paribas as a whole.
  • Promote greater cross business line / metiers/ regional collaboration on media relations.

Skills & Experience Required EXPERIENCE:
  • Essential: 5-10 years experience of strategic communications planning and day-to-day communications management
  • Essential: Extensive understanding of sustainability concepts with a focus on climate topics
  • Essential: Fluent English and the capacity to communicate effectively and efficiently in writing
  • Essential: Ability to understand and analyse client output
  • Essential: Demonstrated ability to deal with strong personalities
  • Preferable: Basic understanding of finance and economy topics

BUSINESS SKILLS:
