Job Description

An exciting new opportunity has arisen in our team for a Solicitor/Chartered Legal Executive within the Children and Families Public Law Department, undertaking Care and Child Protection work.

This role would suit someone with at least three years’ post-qualified experience supporting a busy department.

If you apply direct and successfully pass your probation period, you will receive a one-off bonus of £500 (gross pay).

  • Manage a caseload of child protection maters
  • Advocacy
  • Produce accurate detailed work to ensure excellence in legal services
  • Maintain files and ensure efficient case management of care matters
  • Draft any documentation in accordance with efficient file management including correspondence, briefs, court documentation, full attendance notes and statements of evidence
  • Time record in accordance with the Firm’s policy and prepare bills as necessary
  • Attend to clients at court with counsel
  • Mentor and support junior members of the department
  • Undertake work necessary to build up maintain and manage a caseload
  • Undertake any reasonable instructions made by the Directors or Heads of Departments within the limits of this job description
  • Attend department meetings as required
  • Be actively involved in marketing and business development activities
  • At least three years’ experience working within a Care Department as a Solicitor/Chartered Legal Executive carrying a full caseload of care proceedings
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word and Outlook and good keyboard skills
  • Accredited member of the Law Society’s Children’s Panel would be preferrable, but is not essential
  • Have established a relationship with CAFCASS and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work within quality and case management systems (e.g. Lexcel and Tikit)
  • Dynamic in approach and uses initiative when dealing with clients or potential clients
  • A positive approach to customer service
  • A team player and flexible in approach
  • Ability to deal with sensitive situations and difficult clients in a professional, confidential manner
  • Sufficient knowledge of the legal process to understand the work being undertaken
  • Knowledge of the work of Children and Families Public Law Department and the relevant law
  • Experience of public funding procedures would be advantageous
  • Driving licence and use of own vehicle preferable but ability to travel between offices, courts and stakeholder office essential
