Wood is recruiting for a Technical Director to support the growth of our Clean Energy business working across our end markets of: Renewables (onshore and offshore/floating wind, solar), Green Hydrogen, Carbon Management, Energy Storage, Waste to Energy, Bioenergy, Power to X.
The Clean Energy/Renewables centre of excellence is based in Glasgow; however, we recognise the value of remote and hybrid working so are open to applications throughout the UK.

The Role
This is an exciting leadership role in an expert and dynamic team that will be responsible for growing our industry profile as an experienced developer and applier of new technology on Clean Energy projects. This role will develop cross discipline experience across the Clean Energy end markets
The main objectives for this role are:

  • Support significant growth and expansion plans within the business
  • Elevate Wood's position in the market as leaders in Clean Energy
  • Be a role model for Wood's behaviours encouraging a collaborative, inclusive and supportive team
  • Grow leadership qualities and capability, providing optimised solutions to Client's complex multi-faceted problems


Typical Responsibilities:

  • Oversight and support in allocation for $400k innovation budget supporting growth of the Clean Energy business
  • Global leader of the Clean Energy domain within the Wood Global Technical Expert Network (GTEN)
  • Working with domain experts to run task forces focused on driving innovation and projects.
  • Leading the development of new tools, services and products across a wide range of technologies
  • Lead technical assurance and delivery support activities across Clean Energy.
  • Support to Growth and Development, and marketing activities/events
  • Maintain an industry profile as an acknowledged industry expert by sitting on industry bodies, committees and publishing technical papers

Skills / Qualifications

  • Broad understanding of the Clean Energy/Renewables industry and strong networking and relationship building capability
  • Experience of Clean Energy/Renewable project development at plan, build and operate stages
  • Degree qualification in Engineering, Scientific discipline, or related technical field within Renewables OR degree qualified in a commercial/business discipline with significant experience in a similar role
  • Exceptional communicator both verbally and written in English (ability to speak other European languages is an advantage)
  • Relevant technical or commercial/business management expertise
  • Knowledge of current HSSEA and other legislation as applicable in the industry
  • Team building skills - motivating people, proactively enabling cross functional best practice
