Aviva are seeking a commercial Underwriting Leader to join our East Region Mid-market underwriting team. This is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of a growing team with the role being based in London. You will also benefit from Aviva’s smart working arrangements, with a mix of home and office working.

As an Underwriting Leader you’ll lead and coach a team of underwriters to achieve profitable growth annually whilst maintaining underwriting integrity every time.  Responsible for the profit/loss, revenue, broker alignment, capability, broker/customer relationships, resource, and engagement of the team. 

London is a key trading location, you will strengthen and contribute to our continued growth in the Mid-market space.  This role could be ideal for you if you’re a dynamic leader with a strong industry led background and track of success.

A bit about the job:

In this role, you will be expected to empower your team of underwriters to be the best that they can be and act as a role model, provide mentoring and share ideas to contribute towards continued capability improvement in our business, whilst influencing key contacts in the marketplace through business development, customer engagement and meaningful meetings with brokers and/or customers in order to build their confidence in Aviva. You will also understand what matters to customers and brokers to provide the right solution and deliver the best outcomes as well as identify and implement any required improvements to underwriting quality and capability.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Underwriting knowledge in property, casualty or construction is essential.
  • Experience with applying underwriting knowledge to improve processes and procedures, with strong commercial business acumen to create and deliver business results
  • Excellent business development and customer engagement/relationship building and negotiation skills
  • To have a love of learning grounded in curiosity, open-mindedness and a drive to make things better by understanding them more completely
  • ACII Qualified is desirable

  • Starting salary between £50,000 and £60,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
