Job Description

Are you passionate about and have experience of improving the educational experiences of vulnerable children and young people? Lincolnshire Virtual School is looking to recruit an Assistant Head who will play a key role in the operational delivery and strategic influence of the Virtual School.

About the Role

The Virtual School Assistant Head will use their skills and expertise to lead and support the established and committed team of Education Progress Coordinators to deliver our statutory responsibilities in promoting educational outcomes for children in care and previously looked after children.

As Corporate Parent, the post holder will ensure the partnership working across services within the Local Authority are developed and maintained to deliver an integrated approach to service delivery to promote the very best outcomes for our most vulnerable children. 

This Assistant Head is also responsible for:

  • Providing support and challenge to key leaders in schools, educational settings and professionals to understand and meet the statutory requirements for the education of children and young people in care and previously looked after.
  • Effectively tracking, analysing and using data to maximise attainment and progress for all children in care as if they were on a single school roll.
  • Supporting the quality assurance of Personal Education Plans and managing budgets to enable the effective distribution of Pupil Premium.

About You

The successful candidate must be passionate about improving educational outcomes for vulnerable children.  You will be outcomes driven and be able to motivate, challenge and support your team in a sometimes complex, but also rewarding environment.  Having a track record of being a strategic thinker, effective communicator with the ability to successfully manage change would be beneficial.

You will have up to date knowledge of the education system, recent experience of working in a leadership position and a strong understanding of the potential barriers faced by children in care and previously looked after children.

It is important that you are familiar with statutory guidance relating to children in care, SEND, school attendance, school admissions, suspensions and permanent exclusions.

You will also be confident at communicating effectively, be efficient, organised and able to work using your own initiative within a wider team.
